Schedule of lectures, laboratories, discussions

NSC 5540 is an intensive, yet collegial, course designed to bring a basic understanding of the principles of neuroscience to engineers and other non-neuroscientists in biomedical industry.  The course includes not only lectures but also laboratory experience using the same human brain and spinal cord materials that are used in the medical school.  Advanced topics are also presented in a collegial atmosphere that we hope will encourage cooperative interactions, uninhibited by the artificial barriers that are often created by disparate educational backgrounds and vocabulary. We hope to provide an up-to-date interface between local industry and neuroscience research at the University of Minnesota .

NSC 5540 is offered both for credit and on a course-fee only basis. Academic students complete a take-home final exam. The basic course fee is $1,500 and it is in addition to tuition. Fees are reduced for academic students who are actively engaged in University of Minnesota graduate programs. All books and course materials are provided as part of the course. A continental breakfast, a lunch, and refreshments during class breaks are also provided.

A schedule of presentations for 2007 includes major modules of sensory, motor, and autonomic neuroscience, along with basic concepts and many special topics. The 2007 schedule represents a substantial revision and expansion of material when compared to last year. Contact Kathleen Clinton ( clint003@umn.edu , 612 626-1458) in the Department of Neuroscience office for assistance with registration. Hope to see you in the course!
