About the Course
Directed Research is an individualized research experience
under the direction of a faculty mentor. The course objective
is to provide opportunity for undergraduates (primarily undergraduate
majors in neuroscience) to experience laboratory research.
This is very important preparation for those who intend to
apply for graduate study. Topics vary according to the subject
matter of the research project chosen by the student, with
assistance from the faculty mentor. Readings will include
several papers from the primary research literature as well
as some review articles and several papers about appropriate
research methods. In addition the student will spend time
doing experiments, collecting data, organizing results, as
well as reading pertinent literature and writing a summary
report.
